Board of Governors announces Chair-elect candidates
Two nominees seek election for the Board of Governors, with results of an online vote to be announced mid-October.
Carrie A. Horwitch, MD, FACP, and Darilyn V. Moyer, MD, FACP, are seeking election as Chair-elect of the Board of Governors. The Governors will be casting ballots online with the winner to be announced mid-October.
The winner will begin her term at the conclusion of Internal Medicine 2013 and take office as Chair in April 2014.
Dr. Horwitch received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego and a Master of Public Health degree from UC Berkeley. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arizona and completed her internal medicine residency at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Dr. Horwitch certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1990 and recertified in 2000 and 2010.
She received a diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is certified as an HIV care specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. She is currently core teaching faculty in the internal medicine residency program at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington.
Dr. Horwitch became an ACP Fellow in 2004. She is a member and current chair of the Clinical Skills Subcommittee. She has served on her state ACP council since 2004. She was chair of her annual chapter meeting and has been a lecturer, organizer and workshop presenter at chapter meetings and national ACP meetings over several years. She was elected Governor for the Washington State chapter and took office in 2010. She was elected as the Class of 2014 representative and served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors from 2010-2012.
Her professional interests are HIV care and training, medical education, sexually transmitted diseases, travel medicine, bioethics and professionalism, laughter in medicine, curriculum development, emerging infections and general internal medicine.
Dr. Moyer received her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Pennsylvania in the Biological Basis of Behavior, Biology, and Psychology program. She received her MD from Temple University School of Medicine and completed her residency at Temple University Hospital, where she was chief resident. She obtained her fellowship in infectious diseases at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Moyer is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and infectious diseases. She has been an ACP Fellow since 2008.
Dr. Moyer has been the vice-chair for the education and internal medicine program and director and assistant dean for GME at Temple University School of Medicine and Temple University Hospital. She is the ACP Governor for the Pennsylvania Southeastern Chapter. She is active or has been active on several ACP committees: chair, Chapters Subcommittee; member, Education, Quality and Publications Committee; and member, High Value, Cost-Conscious Care Curriculum Committee and the High Value, Cost-Conscious Care Task Force (Annals of Internal Medicine publication January 2012).
Dr. Moyer has also been active at the annual Internal Medicine meetings, participating in medical student mentoring breakfasts, women's networking luncheons and as a poster judge. Her interests are medical professionalism in the digital age; high-value, cost-conscious care; competency-based education; HIV; infectious diseases; medical education; advocacy; and health and public policy.
