Dr. Opole will serve as President-elect until the Annual Business Meeting and Town Hall on April 20, 2024, during Internal Medicine Meeting 2024, at which time he will become the 2024-2025 ACP President.

In March, Stephen D. Sisson, MD, MACP, resigned his position as ACP 2023-2024 President-elect to pursue other professional opportunities. The College thanks Dr. Sisson for his exemplary service over this past year and as a former Regent and Governor.
Per ACP bylaws, the Governance Committee conducted a special election to fill the vacancy in the President-elect position. Isaac O. Opole, MBChB, PhD, FACP, who was elected in January as the 2024-2025 President-elect and announced to the membership in the November/December 2023 ACP Internist, was placed in nomination for the vacancy by the Governance Committee and elected by the Board of Regents and Board of Governors. Dr. Opole will serve as President-elect until the Annual Business Meeting and Town Hall on April 20, 2024, during Internal Medicine Meeting 2024, at which time he will become the 2024-2025 ACP President.
