Candidates announced for Board of Governors Chair-elect
ACP's Board of Governors will be casting ballots for Chair-elect Designee, and the results will be announced in late October.
Omar T. Atiq, MD, FACP, and Michael J. Tan, MD, FACP, are seeking election as Chair-elect Designee of the Board of Governors. The Governors will be casting ballots next month, and the results will be announced in late October. The candidate elected will begin his term as Chair-elect at the conclusion of Internal Medicine Meeting 2018 and take office as Chair in April 2019.
Dr. Atiq is currently Governor for ACP's Arkansas Chapter. Dr. Atiq has been a Fellow of the College since 1993. He is active at the local level as a member of the Governor's Council and Chair of the Advocacy Committee. Dr. Atiq also served on the Center for Quality's Adult Immunization Program.
On the national level, Dr. Atiq served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors in 2016-2017. He is currently Vice-chair of the Ethics, Professionalism and Human Rights Committee and is a member of the International Council and ACP Services PAC Board. Previously, he was a member of the Board of Governors Reference Committee and served as faculty at Internal Medicine Meeting 2016. He has also been an Arkansas Representative at ACP's Leadership Day for the past 14 years.
Dr. Atiq received his medical degree from Khyber Medical College at the University of Peshawar in Pakistan. He completed his residency at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital and Foster G. McGaw Hospital, Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Atiq completed his fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. Currently, Dr. Atiq is professor of medicine and otolaryngology and director of the Cancer Service Line and associate director at Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Dr. Tan is currently Governor for ACP's Ohio Chapter. Dr. Tan has been a Fellow of the College since 2007. He is active at the local level as a member of the Program Committee and Nominations Committee. In the past, Dr. Tan served as the Membership Chair and was Vice President for the Governor's Advisory Council. The Ohio Chapter received the John Tooker Evergreen Award in 2017 in conjunction with the Air Force Chapter for its program titled “Ohio and Air Force Chapter Collaboration” for Chapter meetings in 2015 and 2016.
On the national level, Dr. Tan is Chair of the Chapters Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors and infectious disease representative for the Scientific Program Committee for Internal Medicine Meeting 2019. Previously, he served on the Membership Advisory Committee and participated in the LEAD program. He has also given multiple presentations at Chapter Leader Network workshops.
Dr. Tan received his medical degree from the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, Ohio. He completed his residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and his fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and infectious disease. Currently, Dr. Tan is the physician lead of infectious disease at Summa Health Medical Group and associate professor of internal medicine at NEOMED.
