Candidates announced for Board of Governors Chair-elect Designee
Two candidates are seeking election as Chair-elect Designee of the Board of Governors.
Two candidates, Sue S. Bornstein, MD, FACP, and Thomas G. Cooney, MD, MACP, are seeking election as Chair-elect Designee of the Board of Governors. The Governors will be casting ballots next month, and the results will be announced in late October. The candidate elected will begin his or her term as Chair-elect at the conclusion of Internal Medicine Meeting 2016 and take office as Chair in April 2017.
Dr. Bornstein received her medical degree from the Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, and completed her residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Presently, she is the executive director of the Texas Medical Home Initiative. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bornstein has been a Fellow of the College since 2003. She has shown her leadership and chapter involvement as the Texas Chapter President, the Co-convener for the Women in Medicine Breakfast at the Texas ACP Annual Meeting, the ACP delegate to the Texas Medical Association House of Delegates, and a representative to the Texas Medical Association Interspecialty Society. On a national level, Dr. Bornstein is currently a member of ACP's Governance Committee and Health and Public Policy Committee. She has served on the Medical Services Policy Committee, Membership Committee, and Executive Committee of the Board of Governors. She is currently the Governor for ACP's Texas Northern Region.
Dr. Cooney received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency and chief medical residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in California. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Currently, he is the professor of medicine and vice chair of education at the Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland. He is also a staff physician at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Cooney received his ACP Mastership in 2010. On a national level, Dr. Cooney is currently Vice Chair of ACP's Education and Publications Committee and an ACP representative to the Internal Medicine Education Redesign Advisory Board (IMEAB). He also served on the GME Task Force and as a member of the MKSAP 12 Ambulatory Medicine Committee. He is currently the Governor for ACP's Oregon Chapter.
