Candidates for the Chair-elect of the Board of Governors

Two candidates are seeking election as Chair-elect of the Board of Governors. The College's Governors have been casting ballots online, with the winner to be announced later this month. The winner will serve as Chair-elect April 2010 through April 2011 and will assume the position of Chair at the conclusion of the Annual Business Meeting at Internal Medicine 2011 in San Diego.

David A. Fleming, FACP

Dr. Fleming received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He also completed his residency at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, where he is a professor of medicine and director of the Center for Health Ethics. He is also chairman of the department of internal medicine. Major professional contributions include quality, patient safety, and medical education, wellness research, ethics and patient rights, and bariatric surgery oversight. He is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine and a National Board Diplomate. Dr. Fleming received his ACP Fellowship in 1986. He became Governor of the Missouri Chapter in 2007. He also serves as Vice-chair of the College's Health and Public Policy Committee.

Mark E. Mayer, FACP

Dr. Mayer received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital (University of North Carolina). He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with added qualifications in geriatrics. He works in the department of internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and is associate professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, where he directs longitudinal clinics and the basic core I course (internal medicine and surgery clerkships). Dr. Mayer received his ACP Fellowship in 1995. He became Governor of the Ohio Chapter in 2007. He is a member of the Health & Public Policy Committee and the Postgraduate/Chapter Education Subcommittee, and served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors from 2007-09.

2010-11 Board of Regents Chair-elect and Chair

At their October meeting, the Board of Regents elected Yul D. Ejnes, FACP, of Cranston, R.I., the 2010-11 Chair-elect of the Board of Regents. Dr. Ejnes will assume the Chair at the conclusion of the Annual Business Meeting at Internal Medicine 2011 in San Diego.

Dr. Ejnes is a general internist in private practice at Coastal Medical, Inc. in Cranston, R.I., and has been clinical associate professor of medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University since 2001.
