Jose A. Filos-Diaz, MACP
Jose A. Filos-Diaz, MACP, an internist and educator, died recently at the age of 84.
Dr. Filos-Diaz received his medical degree from the University of Chicago before returning to his native country of Panama. He trained in internal medicine and pulmonary disease at Gorgas Hospital, where he eventually served as vice chair and then chair of the pulmonary disease and allergy department. He was also a professor of medicine at the University of Panama for more than 20 years.
Within the College, Dr. Filos-Diaz became a Master of the College in 2006 and served as ACP Governor for the Central America Chapter from 1980 to 1984.
Allan L. Goulding, FACP
Allan L. Goulding, FACP, an internist dedicated to geriatric care, died on Sept. 8, 2009, at the age of 88.
A native of Ohio, Dr. Goulding completed his education and medical training in New York City. He was a graduate of Columbia University in New York City and Cornell Weill Medical College. After residency, Dr. Goulding moved to Montana to join the Billings Clinic where he established the first isotope laboratory in the state. He was then recalled by the United States Navy and served for two years.
Dr. Goulding had a particular interest in geriatrics and worked as medical director for four years at St. John's Nursing Home, after which he served on the St. John's Foundation. He was also the first director of the Deaconess Hospital Elder Care Assessment Clinic. In addition, Dr. Goulding served as president of the medical staffs at Billings Deaconess Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital, as well as a member of his state's board of medical examiners and American Society of Internal Medicine (before the organization's merger with ACP).
Within ACP, Dr. Goulding became a Fellow in 1957 and served as ACP Governor for the Montana Chapter from 1972 to 1976.
Raymond H. Murray, MACP
Raymond H. Murray, MACP, a cardiologist and researcher, died on Oct. 2, 2009, at the age of 84.
Dr. Murray graduated from the University of Notre Dame and, in 1948, received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He served in the Navy Medical Corps during World War Two before entering private practice as a cardiologist in Grand Rapids, Mich. Dr. Murray later joined the Indiana University School of Medicine, first conducting aerospace research at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, then as director of the Krannert Institute of Cardiology. Before his retirement he served as chairman of the department of human medicine at Michigan State University.
Dr. Murray became a Master of the College in 2000 and served as ACP Governor for the Michigan Chapter from 1994 to 1998. Dr. Murray also served as a council member for the Michigan Chapter from 1978 to 1990 and as a member on the Chapters Subcommittee from 1994 to 1996. Dr. Murray received his chapter's Laureate Award in 1992.
