ACP weighs in on Supreme Court rulings

The College issued statements in response to recent court decisions on reproductive health care, misinformation, and firearms.

ACP published strong statements on some recently released Supreme Court decisions regarding cases that impact internal medicine physicians and their patients.

As part of ongoing advocacy efforts, ACP had joined with other physician groups to file an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in each of the cases to advocate for a decision in the interest of physicians and patients.

Two of the cases were connected to access to reproductive health care services. College statements expressed relief about the decisions allowing the FDA approval of mifepristone to remain in place and determining that patients are entitled to emergency health care services. ACP expressed appreciation that the Court allowed the federal government to combat medical misinformation on social media and disappointment about the decision restricting the federal government's ability to regulate bump stocks for firearms.
