A newly updated ethics case study from ACP, “When the Family Caregiver Is a Physician: Negotiating the Ethical Boundaries,” is now available for CME credit and MOC points.
This case study illustrates many of the challenges that result from blending the personal and professional roles of family caregiver and physician. These challenges include respecting patient autonomy and privacy, sharing information, facilitating patient and family understanding of illness and treatment options and decisions regarding care, and considering the needs of the physician/family caregiver.
