ACP joins effort to combat antibiotic resistance
The AMR Challenge calls on medical organizations, governments, and private industry to commit to taking actionable steps to combat antibiotic resistance around the world.
ACP is among the dozens of organizations and companies that have joined the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Challenge, an effort led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the CDC.
According to the CDC, antibiotic resistance threatens the world's progress in health care, food production, and even life expectancy. The AMR Challenge calls on medical organizations, governments, and private industry to commit to taking actionable steps to combat antibiotic resistance around the world. In the United States alone, at least 2 million people get resistant infections each year and at least 23,000 die.
Organizations participating in the challenge commit to work in at least one of five areas: tracking and data; infection prevention and control; antibiotic use; environment and sanitation; or vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics. Resources to protect patients and people in the community from antibiotic-resistant infections are available at the CDC website. The resources include a library of infection prevention guidelines and infection control tools for health care settings.
