ACP has released a new Practice Advisor module and associated webinars on opioid risk management for chronic pain.
The module, Opioid Risk Management, helps assess a practice's ability to successfully develop a treatment plan for chronic pain and track and monitor use of opioids if prescribed. Successful completion of this activity enables the participant to earn 20 CME and MOC Practice Assessment points.
“Safer Opioid Prescribing,” a webinar led by Karen Funk, MD, MPP, vice president of clinical services for Clinica Family Health Services and TCPI National Faculty, will be held on Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. ET. Register here.
A second webinar, “Managing Patients Not Benefiting From (or Being Harmed by) Opioids,” will be held on Sept. 5 at 12 p.m. ET. Experts in opioid management and weaning will discuss how to assess patients on opioids for lack of benefit and implement a patient-centered opioid taper and treatment plan with alternative therapies, as well as how to assess for and treat opioid use disorder. The webinar hosts are Daniel P. Alford, MD, MPH, FACP, professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and director of both the Clinical Addiction Research and Education (CARE) Unit and the Safe and Competent Opioid Prescribing Education (SCOPE of Pain) Program, and Robert Kerns, PhD, professor of psychiatry, neurology, and psychology at Yale University and founding director of the Pain Research, Informatics, Multi-morbidities, and Education (PRIME) Center of Innovation.
