Council of Medical Specialty Societies names ACP Fellow as new EVP and CEO

Helen Burstin, MD, MPH, FACP, is the first woman physician to lead the organization.


The Council of Medical Specialty Societies has selected Helen Burstin, MD, MPH, FACP, to be the organization's next executive vice president and chief executive officer. Dr. Burstin is the first woman physician to lead the organization. Dr. Burstin currently serves as the chief scientific officer of the National Quality Forum (NQF) and will take office on Jan. 1, 2018.

The Council of Medical Specialty Societies and its 43 member societies represent 790,000 U.S. physician members. Member societies collaborate to enhance the quality of care delivered in the U.S. health care system and to improve the health of the public.
