New ethics case study examines addressing a colleague's unprofessional behavior
The case study offers a hypothetical example of dealing with a colleague who openly exhibits unprofessional behavior and makes derogatory comments about a patient.
A new ethics case study developed by the College, “Addressing a Colleague's Unprofessional Behavior During Sign-Out,” is now available.
This case study offers a hypothetical example of a potentially volatile and frustrating situation and provides commentary on dealing with a colleague who openly exhibits unprofessional behavior and makes derogatory comments about a patient. The case study also provides potential methods for dealing with the unprofessional colleague on both an individual and an institutional level.
Developed by ACP's Ethics, Professionalism, and Human Rights Committee and the Center for Ethics and Professionalism, the case study is available on Medscape and a login is required. To learn more about ethics and professionalism activities at ACP, visit ACP online.
