Comments on the cost crisis

A reader responds to a recent President's Message.

Isaac O. Opole, MBChB, PhD, MACP, is correct! His President's Message column in the March 2025 I.M. Matters (“The Cost Crisis: An Existential Threat to Our Health”) accurately describes how cost is threatening U.S. health care delivery. The cause is simply that health care is looked upon as a profitable business option. Until we physicians, nurses, therapists, et cetera accept adequate compensation with decent salaries and can stop focusing on dollars, the problem will only worsen. Let's get back to medicine as a calling.
