Marion D. Hargrove Jr., MD, FACP
Marion D. Hargrove Jr., MD, FACP, died Sept. 9, 2024.
Dr. Hargrove served as ACP Governor for the Louisiana Chapter from 1974 to 1978. He received the Laureate Award in 1992.
Dr. Hargrove graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport, La., in 1951 and received a doctor of medicine degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1954. He completed an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and internal medicine residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. Hargrove was an instructor in medicine and a fellow in gastroenterology at Duke University School of Medicine and held a residency in medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
Dr. Hargrove started a gastroenterology practice in Shreveport in 1961 and became a founding assistant professor of medicine at the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in 1968. He was appointed chairman of the department of medicine in 1970 and held the title for 21 years. After retiring in 1995, Dr. Hargrove was appointed professor emeritus of medicine and department head emeritus at LSU Medical School. He also served as a captain in the United States Army and as a consultant for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Shreveport.
