The College notes the passing of two former Chapter Governors.
Robert C. Aber, MD, MACP
Robert (Bob) C. Aber, MD, MACP, died Dec. 1, 2023.
Dr. Aber served as Governor for the Pennsylvania Eastern Chapter from 1996 to 2000 and received a Special Recognition Award in 2018. He graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1970, then completed a medical residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Between his residency and fellowship, he served two years with the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service in Atlanta.
Dr. Aber joined Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa., in 1976 and remained on faculty until his death. While at Penn State, he founded the division of infectious diseases and epidemiology at Hershey Medical Center and was chair of the department of medicine from 2002 to 2018.

Jan Rival, MD, MACP
Jan Rival, MD, MACP, died on March 15, 2023.
He served as Governor for the Michigan Chapter from 1998 to 2002 and was a recipient of its Laureate Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Rival graduated summa cum laude in 1959 from Komenski University Medical School in Bratislava and subsequently completed year-long fellowships in cardiology at Philadelphia General Hospital and at Wayne State University in Detroit. He joined Henry Ford Hospital, also in Detroit, in 1969 and remained employed there until just before his death. In addition, Dr. Rival was a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Michigan, which presented him with its Outstanding Teacher Award in 1994.
