Candidates announced for Board of Governors Chair-elect
The candidate who is elected will begin his or her term as Chair-elect at the conclusion of Internal Medicine Meeting 2023 and will take office as Chair in April 2024.
Angela C. Johnson, MD, FACP, and Daniel H. Pomerantz, MD, MPH, FACP, are seeking election as Chair-elect Designee of the Board of Governors. Governors will cast ballots in October, and the results will be announced mid-October. The candidate who is elected will begin his or her term as Chair-elect at the conclusion of Internal Medicine Meeting 2023 and will take office as Chair in April 2024.
Dr. Johnson is the Governor for ACP's Louisiana Chapter. She has been an FACP since 2010. Dr. Johnson has been active at the local level as a member of her chapter's Nominating and Scientific Planning Committees. She has served as Chair of the Scientific Planning Committee. Under her leadership, the chapter received the Chapter Excellence Award in 2020 (Silver Tier) and 2021 (Gold Tier).
On the national level, Dr. Johnson is currently serving as a member of the Governance and Education Committees. She previously served as Vice-chair of the Awards Committee, a member of the Performance Measurement Committee, and as Class Re?presentative on the Executive Committee, Board of Governors. Additionally, Dr. Johnson has previously served as the Chair-elect and Chair of the Council of Early Career Physicians.
Dr. Johnson received her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She is board certified in internal medicine and is actively participating in Maintenance of Certification. Currently, Dr. Johnson is a professor of clinical medicine and the section chief of internal medicine at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Baton Rouge Campus.
Dr. Pomerantz is the Governor for ACP's New York Hudson Valley Chapter. He has been an FACP since 2010. Dr. Pomerantz has been active at the local level as a member of his chapter's Ethics and Ad Hoc Committees to develop a state-mandated pain management course, as well as the Well-being Task Force, now the Well-being Committee. He was also co-chair for poster judging and has attended state Leadership Day for the past two years. Under his leadership, the chapter received the Chapter Excellence Award in 2020 (Gold Tier) and 2021 (Gold Tier) and Evergreen Awards in 2021 and 2022 (two Awards and a Special Recognition Award).
On a national level, Dr. Pomerantz is currently serving as Vice-chair of the Physician Well-being and Professional Fulfillment Committee and as a member of the Membership Committee. Recently, Dr. Pomerantz served as a Well-being Champion and a member of the Reference Committee for the fall 2021 Board of Governors meeting. He has attended national ACP Leadership Days and has served as Class Representative on the Executive Committee, Board of Governors.
Dr. Pomerantz received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his residency at NYU-Bellevue in New York. He is board certified in internal medicine, as well as hospice and palliative medicine. Additionally, he holds a master's degree in public health. Currently, Dr. Pomerantz is the director of palliative care and associate program director of the internal medicine residency program at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital in New York.
