ACP's I.M. Emotional Support Hub offers new well-being video series
ACP has launched a new well-being video series featuring brief videos of ACP members outlining practical strategies to cope with daily burdens, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact clinicians' personal and professional lives. The series is available at ACP's I.M. Emotional Support Hub. The hub also offers tools and resources to help organizations and individuals address evolving emotional challenges during the pandemic. Clinicians are encouraged to take a few minutes to watch these videos and share them with a colleague who may need support.
Ethics case study focuses on role of physician colleagues in physician suicide prevention
A new ethics case study, “Physician Suicide Prevention: The Ethics and Role of the Physician Colleague and the Healing Community,” is now available for free CME credit and MOC points.
This ethics case study examines how foundational ethical and professional values and principles can inform assessment of whether a colleague could be suicidal, and how to respond to suicides within the medical community. The case study was developed by ACP's Ethics, Professionalism and Human Rights Committee and the ACP Center for Ethics and Professionalism.
ACP, YouTube Partner on new videos to counter vaccine misinformation
ACP has partnered with YouTube to create two new video series providing education on COVID-19 and vaccines, as well as strategies to help combat health misinformation. Ask Your Internist is ACP's new patient-facing series featuring physicians answering the public's top vaccine-related questions. Physician to Physician Conversations is a clinician-facing series featuring practical approaches to address vaccine and health misinformation with patients. Several of the videos will also be offered in Spanish. The first episodes of each of these series can be viewed on ACP's YouTube channel, where new videos will be uploaded throughout the next few months.
Governor-elect Designee election results announced
The Executive Committee of the Board of Governors is pleased to announce the Governor-elect Designees representing the Class of 2027. They will start their terms as Governors-elect after the Annual Business Meeting on April 30, 2022, and take office as Governors in April 2023.
ICYMI: Highlights from ACP Internist Weekly
- Phentermine-topiramate most effective drug overall for weight loss, study finds. The systematic review and meta-analysis of 143 trials involving 49,810 participants also found that semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, appeared to be the most effective drug for weight loss in its class, with a higher likelihood of weight loss of 5% or more and percentage body weight change and a similar risk of adverse events. The study was published Dec. 8, 2021, by The Lancet and summarized in the Dec. 14, 2021, ACP Internist Weekly.
- Meta-analysis compares mortality benefits of heart failure treatment combinations. Patients taking an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor, beta-blocker, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor had the greatest reduction in risk of death, the systematic review and meta-analysis of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction found. A total of 75 trials with 95,444 participants were included in the study, which was published by JACC: Heart Failure on Dec. 8, 2021, and summarized in the Dec. 14, 2021, ACP Internist Weekly.
