Richard “Rick” P. Holm, MD, MACP, has died after a long battle against pancreatic cancer, and Eugene P. Libre, MD, MACP, died on Feb. 16, 2020, at age 87.

Richard “Rick” P. Holm, MD, MACP, has died after a long battle against pancreatic cancer, the ACP South Dakota Chapter announced on March 23.
He was a three-time South Dakota ACP Chapter Governor and was well known across the state as the “Prairie Doc.” Dr. Holm created, hosted, and produced “On Call,” a television show on South Dakota Public Broadcasting. He also spent 20 years hosting a morning radio show on health topics, wrote countless editorials and articles for newspapers and journals, and wrote several books, including his last, “Life's Final Season.”
Dr. Holm was a past recipient of the ACP South Dakota Chapter's Laureate Award, as well as the 2020 national ACP Oscar E. Edwards Memorial Award for Volunteerism and Community Service. He was also a past president of the South Dakota State Medical Association and is a physician member of the South Dakota Hall of Fame class of 2016.
Eugene P. Libre, MD, MACP
Eugene P. Libre, MD, MACP, died on Feb. 16, 2020, at age 87.
From 2000 to 2004, Dr. Libre was Governor of ACP's District of Columbia Chapter.
He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. After finishing his internal medicine residency, Dr. Libre served in the U.S. Army as a Captain with the 4th Armored Division in Göppingen, Germany. He then worked in private practice after a hematology/oncology fellowship and conducting research at the NIH.
