The Board of Governors will hear 17 resolutions at its spring meeting in Philadelphia. ACP Members interested in submitting a resolution to their Governor or chapter council may do so for the Board of Governors' fall meeting. Initiating a resolution provides ACP members an opportunity to focus attention at the ACP national level on a particular issue or topic that concerns them. When drafting a resolution, members should consider how well it fits within ACP's Mission and Goals and should use the College's 2018-2020 Strategy and Priority Themes to guide them when proposing a resolution topic. Members can visit their chapter website and click the link under “Advocacy” to access the Electronic Resolutions System and view a copy of the resolutions process.

A resolution becomes a resolution of the chapter once the chapter council approves it. The deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the fall 2019 Board of Governors meeting is March 25.

ACP supports new facility guidelines on primary care and gynecology procedures

ACP, along with other health care organizations, supports new guidelines released by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the National Partnership for Women & Families. “The Project on Facility Guidelines for the Safe Performance of Primary Care and Gynecology Procedures in Offices and Clinics” was undertaken to develop evidence-informed policy regarding procedures performed in these settings with the goal of furthering health care quality, safety, affordability, and patient experience without imposing unjustified burdens on patients' access to care or on clinicians' ability to provide care within their scope of practice. The guidelines were published in the February issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

ACP asks Nicaragua to respect physicians' duty to care for injured regardless of politics

ACP has sent a letter to Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega to respectfully call on the government of Nicaragua to “respect and protect the ethical duty of physicians and other medical personnel to provide safe and appropriate medical care to whoever has need of it, without regard to political circumstances.”

Political unrest and violence in Nicaragua have reportedly led the government to impede the provision of care to wounded protesters, with physicians being subject to arbitrary firings and orders not to treat demonstrators.

The letter was signed by ACP President Ana María López, MD, MPH, MACP, and Central America Chapter Governor Nestor Sosa, MD, FACP, and can be accessed online.

ICYMI: Highlights from ACP Internist Weekly

2019 Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) changes flu, hepatitis A and B vaccination advice for adults. The 2019 immunization schedule, published by Annals of Internal Medicine and on the CDC website on Feb. 5, offers revised content, format, and graphics. While the new schedule is streamlined for easier reference, physicians should pay careful attention to the details found in the footnotes, which clarify who needs what vaccine, when, and at what dose, the authors said.

ACP's Job Placement Center offers career opportunities at Internal Medicine Meeting 2019 in Philadelphia. The Job Placement Center will be located in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Booth #618. Internal Medicine Meeting 2019 will be held April 11-13. The center provides physicians with tools to assist in job searches and access to job postings for openings nationwide, as well as the opportunity to meet with potential employers. Employers can submit job postings, and physicians looking for a job may submit a job seeker's profile and/or upload their CV.
