Thomas M. Braithwaite, MD, FACP
Thomas M. Braithwaite, MD, FACP, Governor for the College's South Dakota chapter, died Aug. 28, 2014, at the age of 57.
Dr. Braithwaite received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College in 1978 and graduated from the University of South Dakota (USD) Medical School in 1982. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals/Clinics in 1985. Dr. Braithwaite then joined the Internal Medicine Clinic in Sioux Falls and was in private practice for 18 years.
In 2003, Dr. Braithwaite left private practice to start a hospitalist program at Sanford USD Medical Center. He later served the hospital as chairman of the physician board of governors, a member of the board of trustees executive committee, and chief quality officer.
Dr. Braithwaite was serving as the South Dakota chapter Governor at the time of his death. In 2010, he was profiled as one of ACP Hospitalist's Top Hospitalists.
