James T. Dove, MACP
James T. Dove, MACP, a cardiologist, researcher and educator, died on November 7, 2010 at the age of 71.
Dr. Dove graduated from Wittenberg University in 1961 and from Case-Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1965. He completed his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Medicine and his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Rochester.
In 1973, after serving in the Public Health Service in Washington, DC, Dr. Dove began practice in Springfield, Ill., at the Springfield Clinic. In 1979 he left to form what was to become the Prairie Heart Institute. He was a founding partner of Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants Ltd. Dr. Dove was affiliated with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he served as chief of the division of cardiology from 1991-1999 and was a clinical professor of medicine at the time of his death.
Dr. Dove was very involved in educational program development for students, residents, paramedical personnel, and primary care physicians, as well as clinical research. He also had a longstanding interest in improving patient access to care and facilitating care delivery between subspecialty and primary care physicians. Dr. Dove was active in the American College of Cardiology, serving as chair of the group's board of governors as well as in numerous other positions. He was a member of expert panels for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institutes of Health and the National Quality Forum.
Dr. Dove became a Master of the College in 2002 and served as ACP Governor for the Illinois Chapter from 1988-1992. He was the Laureate Award winner for his chapter in 1992.
