Issue covers highlights from Internal Medicine 2010

Internal Medicine 2010, held in Toronto this April, offered a little something for everyone. Precourses covered the patient-centered medical home and mechanical ventilation, among other areas, while the scientific sessions addressed topics as wide-ranging as reversible contraception and coding and billing. This year's over 6,000 attendees—physicians, medical students and allied health professionals—had more than enough to choose from to make their meeting experience a success.

As always, ACP Internist ‘s staff was on site to provide you with up-to-date coverage, offering tips for attendees as well as blog digests and daily e-newsletters for those who couldn't be there in person. All of our coverage from Toronto is available online.

Our coverage in this issue, meanwhile, highlights several sessions from the meeting that illustrate its breadth and depth. We first look at two topics of perennial interest to internists: state-of-the-art care in cardiology and management of opioid dependence. The former summarizes experts' tips on caring for patients after an acute coronary event and optimizing anticoagulation management, while the latter offers guidance on maintenance treatment with agonists and methadone, along with advice on preventing addiction.

Coverage continues with stories on allergy and immunology topics for internists, efficient use of e-mail in your practice, acculturation advice for international medical graduates and treatment of incontinence in women. And that's not all: This issue also includes conference coverage from the Society of Hospital Medicine's annual meeting, also held this April in Washington, D.C.

On another topic, I'm happy to announce that ACP Internist has won a silver EXCEL award from Association Media & Publishing in the category of Newspapers: General Excellence. The EXCEL awards are presented annually to honor the best in association publishing, and we're very proud to be among that group for 2010.
